Global Warming and Climate Change} what is carbon sequestration?
Climate change cause and effect? What is carbon sequestration, and why is it miss understood? The causes of carbon sequestration, are mainly from two sources. The first source is the one most people can readily see, erosion by the movement of water! We have all seen roads that have been covered by landslides from hills that gave way when after heavy rains, the ground would become so saturated with water that if there was not enough roots or other property's to hold the hill together and down she would come. This happens every time that it rains and water flow downward towards a stream and then into a river, only in much smaller amounts then it takes a landslide to happen. Is all of this soil, carbon, no but almost all of this soil has organic life in it, that is made up of carbon. As it flows downstream much of the soils will come to rest at a bend in the river where the water slow down enough to settle out some of the sediment and nature will reclaim much of the carbon back into the environment. But as everyone knows all of the great rivers of the world take billion of tons of sediment down into every ocean of the world and much (not all) of the organic matter gets buried deep in the rivers ever growing deltas. This is the start of much of the 'moving water sequestration'. where even bacterial cannot go and break down the organic material into its carbon based origins. instead it settle deep under water and with tons of other material on top of it to be removed from being able to interact with life again for perhaps 200 million years. This is the time frame for the length of how long it can take for the sea floor to be lifted back, up or down, by Continent drift. The second source of carbon sequestration is truly astounding it happens wherever clams, or any shellfish live and dies. For wherever they is such life there is sequestration of carbon in scales of such amounts that over the billions of years of such life on this planet that over 99.999% of all carbon that was ever available for that life to exist, the carbon has been removed into a very hard to get at (by nature) rock called limestone! Yet most people knows that limestone is created only by the death of sea life, but they do not see the correlation between this somewhat hard rock and the loss of what life on this planet needs to exist! The planet is not a never ending producer of Carbon and by extension carbon dioxide, remember that carbon is a element and while it is a most abuntant elment, once it is converted to limestone it is only able to be released back into the atmosphere by nature when it comes in contact with the forces of a active volcanoe even if it is only a super heated vent that has the ability to melt the limestone back into it gases stage of carbon dioxide.
