Cliff note's; of the 24 post's and main paper!  4.5 billion years ago there was no life on the newly formed planet, the atmosphere of the planet was almost all carbon dioxide, a small amount of nitrogen, a little hydrogen, and some sulfuric acid. the atmosphere was also much denser, how much that would be a guess, perhaps on the order of 10 times as much. Once some type of life began that used the carbon dioxide-sun-water to begin photosynthesis, then carbon sequestration also started.So from the first life on the planet to now, carbon has been removed from the cycle of life, on a much larger scale then has been returned by volcanic action. In this same time frame, the sun's energy has been increasing by around 1% every100 million years. this extra energy would have offset the lost of the green house gas carbon dioxide, along with the much larger cloud cover, then we now have, that would have helped regulate surface temperature's. Whenever carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas's became too low for the weaker sun then we enjoy now, a ice age would start! Some of these were many million's of years long. Around 2.4 billion years ago, the conversion of carbon dioxide to carbon and oxygen, started a whole new phase of life, and a huge die off of the existing life, due to oxygen being a poison to some of that old type of life. The new type of life, did not use photosynthesis, to get it's energy but used oxygen to breathe, and ate the plant life to get the carbon it needed to survive. So it could be said that this new life was just a parasite, on the earlier life form, ( as we are to this day, so no different then any other type of life that does not use photosynthesis to survive. ) Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, would normally be replaced by, ocean bound carbon. This is the reverse of what is happening today, because of man's introduction of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels. CCLXXIV Global Warming and Climate Change} Let's talk more, about the 50,000 gigatonnes of available carbon, that is left for all life on the planet!

First, how do scientist's come up with around 50,000 gigatonnes of available carbon left on the planet? Some of the amounts can be directly measured, how much there is in the atmosphere is one of the most researched numbers on the planet! That figure of 415 parts per million equals around 800 gigatonnes of carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide. 560 gigatonnes in plant and animal life are based on both satellite images for how much plant life is on the planet during the year and measurements that were taken by hundreds of people every year all around the planet. How much soil carbon, is taken by averaging soil carbon from all over the globe this amount is said to be 1,500 gigatonnes.
