71% of the planet's surface is water, 29% is land, of that 25% to 30% is arid or semi-arid land!
Deserts are the second biggest land area only behind farmable lands that is between 37% and 40% of the surface lands of the planet. The remaining amount of between 30% and 38% is split between all other lands, from the tropical rain forest and other forests, mountains, arable land that are not acceptable for farming for many reasons, and all other types of lands such as cities and towns. With so much desert's on the planet, that because of their very nature, causes extreme temperature fluctuations in very short time frames. Why do not scientists see this, why do they think that deserts are to be expected, on a planet that they believe has enough carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? Only by seeing past what is, and seeing what should be, can we truly solve the most pressing issue of the life of all carbon-based species on this planet. We only need to look at the oceans of the planet, is there 25% of the oceans that have almost no life in them, yes there are areas on the oceans that have limited life, many believe that this is caused by very low iron available because winds that can bring iron thousands of miles to much of the oceans fail to reach these ocean desserts! Where there seems to have an overabundance of life, but this could very well relate to our tropical rainforest on land, where nature can go wild with life because of the perfect conditions are at work! The observation that scientists make are of great importance, but just as we need to imagine what life could be on other planets because we can not see what is there, we need to see why and why not there is life on this planet as if we could not observe, because truly we can not observe a great deal of life on this planet! So we start to assume that because of A there is B therefore if we have a C it would follow that there must be a D. Observations, can only take us so far, we need to see what is not there, to understand why it is not there! If we ask why there is little or no life on 25% of the land surface of the planet, maybe we can start a new line of questions instead of thinking that we know everything, because I assure you we do not, with the "WE" being of the utmost importance!
