Global Warming and Climate Change} Why planting a trillion trees is the wrong way to stop global warming!

    This one is both very easy and extremely tricky to answer! The straightforward approach is to tell you that if you would find enough land to plant that many trees you would have to either make sure that the area that you are using has enough rainfall for the trees to grow, otherwise someone will have to bring water to them. It does not have animals that like to eat trees such as beavers, deer, rabbits, and other animals such as porcupines. Then you have to wait 30 years for them to get big enough to store the necessary carbon! Plus they do little in adding to plant respiration, in places that this need is greatest! But yes they can be a help in such places that have had forests before, replanting the tropical rain forests would be the best place for them! The real negatives would be in thinking that by planting these trillion trees would solve global warming and it would not because you have not repaired enough of the temperature regulating abilities of the planet. That is the true loss that the planet has had occur. And simply taking 150 parts per million of carbon dioxide will not repair that. 

    Let's look at a hypothetical situation! It is the year 2060, and mankind has managed to establish 1 trillion new trees and they are now mature, and they have gotten the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 300 parts per million, sounds perfect does it not? by necessary they were planted where the natural rainfall was sufficient to allow the trees to grow quickly and there very presents increased the normal rainfall in the surrounding area. However, no arid or semi-arid areas were replanted, mankind had placed all of the repairings of the planet on removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Crop yield while not as high as if there were still 400 parts per million but feeding the population of the planet is with-in acceptable levels, then a super-volcano event happens somewhere on the planet, mankind does not have any built-in plans for the additional carbon dioxide that has both darken the planet and caused crop failures around the world, had the planet been better prepared, with food backup, and sufficient cloud cover to maintain warmth, what would had been a tragic event becomes much more, because we were living on the edge of normal, with no safety net of what the "plan" would have made as a normal condition. 

    The "plan" does not just reduce extreme weather, but it also act as a cushion for major events, such as changes in the sunspot activity, increased volcanic actions, or other unknown factors that mankind has seldom or never before had to work with! Please tell others about that guy in Nebraska, that may be on to another way of thinking, on the true nature that life on the planet is facing.
