Difficult to break, easy to reuse "Glass" One of the biggest problems mankind has fostered upon ourselves, is the waste of packaging, 50 years ago many people got their milk, beer, pop almost any liquid could to found in recyclable glass containers. I do not have to expound on the problems that changing over to plastics has caused! The advances that glassmaking companies, have made over that same time frame have been quite remarkable. It has always been the recycling and the manpower needed that limited glass as the go-to product. The reason was the distance between manufacturer and retail buyers! Local milk producers were custom-made for using and reusing, glass containers. The "towns" that the "plan" needs to be a success, with rail service to all other towns will be ideal for using glass for just about everything that they produce with the exception of fresh produce, even dehydrated foods can be kept easily in glass for long periods of time. Even if you end up breaking the jar or bottle the pieces can be recycled, over and over! By using very large containers to bring in bulk amounts and then breaking the large batches down into smaller glass containers, can keep shipping costs down. While many times the economy of size will help, that can also create logistical problems, for recycling! By using bulk containers from manufacturing plants and using distribution centers much closer to point of use, the recycling of the glass containers becomes simpler and more cost-effective. To really do the "plan" right, just about everything has to be designed for maximum use, and reuse. From homes, and businesses, all the way down to recycling "all" waste products, including "you know what", everything has a value, we just need to learn what each one is. First, how do scientist's come up with around 50,000 gigatonnes of available carbon left on the planet? Some of the amounts can be directly measured, how much there is in the atmosphere is one of the most researched numbers on the planet! That figure of 415 parts per million equals around 800 gigatonnes of carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide. 560 gigatonnes in plant and animal life are based on both satellite images for how much plant life is on the planet during the year and measurements that were taken by hundreds of people every year all around the planet. How much soil carbon, is taken by averaging soil carbon from all over the globe this amount is said to be 1,500 gigatonnes.
