CCCXXIII Global Warming and Climate Change} Proof is a very difficult thing to find in science, even after hundreds of years,we have only theorems!
And that is in mathematics, one of the purest of the sciences. Climate science has so many variables and inter-dependent systems, that to try and look into the future and predict with any certainty what outcome can be expected with changing inputs, would at first glance seem ridiculous at the best of times. Thankfully that is "not" what we are striving to do! What the "plan" does is recreate the past, many will say that is what today's scientists are also striving to do, recreate the past climate that the planet and mankind enjoyed from around 1850 or so. So let's imagine what this would mean for mankind and the planet. Back around 1850 carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was around 280 parts per million. There have been many studies done on carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere and crop yields, Most of the crops that mankind raises for food, fall in the C-3 category of plants, and the yields that can be expected, will decrease from as little as 20% up to 50% depending on the species in question, this is comparing current levels of carbon dioxide in the present atmosphere of around 410 parts per million with the desired concentrations of only 280 parts per million, Most plans that are being touted to achieve this goal does not increase cropland but actually changes some of the existing cropland back into forest for long term capture of the offending carbon. Reducing the amount of grains and vegetable yields around the planet, making hunger even more likely for many. Plus it does nothing for the planet, it only makes mankind more comfortable with more continuity in being something that their great-great-grandparents were more use to. Remember there were still droughts and flooding. The "plan" does not try and recreate the past of only 170 years ago, but of over 3 million years ago, almost no desert's or semi-arid areas, lush abundant plantlife wherever mankind wants it, and most importantly much more cloud cover, and the rainfall and more uniform temperatures that go along with that. Food production will be substantially increased, working farm families would thrive, and their numbers would always be increasing. Glacier replenishment would be vital to maintain snowfall during the winter by reflecting more of the sunlight at higher altitudes. Many years into the future, mankind will need to decide what type of climate would be best for the planet, but everyone on the planet now would be only a memory. But with luck and planning and hope, our planet will be able to continue with carbon-based life far into the future! At that point, humanity will have replaced mankind!
