6 Potential and Kinetic Energy, every living thing on the planet has both! How mankind makes use of both of these is what defines us.
This post is talking about, how with most of the world entering into a "cash society", has dramatically reduced mankind's ability to do multiple tasks, that other places around the planet consider normal knowledge. What happened in the "Great State of Texas" last week from the freezing weather, could have been much less of a problem if people had just some basic knowledge of how things work! Shut the water off at the point where it entered into their houses, and open up every tap in the house to drain the water from pipes that could freeze and do major damage once the broken frozen pipes unfroze, thereby flooding the homes, which insurance companies then try to refuse to cover the damages, if you do not carry flood insurance! A toilet that will not flush, a sink that continues to drip, an electrical outlet that shorted out, a wood floor that got a little water damage from overwatering a plant, a hole in drywall from someone hitting it with a piece of furniture, gutters that are leaking! Then there are oil changes on a car, fixing a flat, replacing an engine belt, The majority of people in America no longer knows how to repair any of these small little problems. It is not that they simply do not wish to do them, they cannot do them! And to make matters worst, as in Texas, did the government go to the television stations, and explain how to shut off the water to prevent many of these problems caused by the cold weather! Or how to help people to get the information that they needed. Not from what I hear, they only keep passing the blame, even to "Solar and Wind power"! I have many friends and acquaintances, who are first-generation immigrants who know how to do everything that I have talked about and many other things, but do not pass on this information to their own children, for they want their children to use schooling and education for a "better life" where they do not need to use their hands but there brains to succeed. I am sorry but it takes "brains" to build a home, or fix a car, not just bring a check-book or a credit card! Knowledge is how we succeed, not just sitting at a desk, and filling out paperwork, getting no exercise, eating poorly, and being grumpy when you get home and too "tire" to play with the kids, (who at talking on their phones or PlayStation anyway)! The American dream "work smarter not harder" does not make a better Country! But it does create more division between groups of people, to the point that many children of immigrant families have very little to do with their own parents once they "succeed," as if they no longer have anything in common with them. It is the people that build our lives that are the most important people on the planet, whether that is the energy provider, the home builder, the people that build the roads, the farmers who produce the raw foods, the cooks, the nurses, and doctors who keep us healthy, the artist's and entertainers, and everyone else that I am sure that I have forgotten that truly, make life! Prior to our "Modern Society," all of these people could be the same person or family or small group, Twenty families could move out to a new land in America, help each other build homes, dig wells, plant crops, raise livestock, hunt, and fish, start a true community that supplied the basic everyday needs of that group of individuals. Now we do not even know our neighbors, and may not even know how to change a flat tire on the highway with-out calling for help! But even with all of this said, our biggest loss is those of us who have been under-used, tossed aside, or never even given a chance, because of so many reasons. What would this world be like, if every one of us was allowed to make the most of our abilities in making this planet the best that it could be? Schools would not just be a way of learning our ABCs,s but how to enjoy, participate, improve, who each one of us can be! Dan 402-890-7946
