CCCXXXI Global Warming and Climate Change} Farming in area's that are either arid or semi-arid, require a continuing source of freshwater!
Using underground reservoirs, to fulfill this need is never going to be a sustainable solution! But using freshwater before it enters oceans and seas will, not only are they relatively consistent, but the new water vapor that will be released into the atmosphere from the newly recreated plant life will also increase rainfall to help maintain the available water cycle! The true problem is getting the freshwater from sometimes hundreds of miles away, to where it is needed, In the USA east of the Missouri river they there is little need for additional water, (granted this is not always the case) but west of the Missouri River, over 50% of those lands are either arid or semi-arid, They also contain where much of America's fresh fruits and vegetables come from. There are two solutions to how to get fresh water to the western half of the country, Pipelines, and canals, along with increasing water vapor off of the west coast of the USA! Pumping fresh water sometimes halfway across the country is not only an ambitious objective, but would have the added benefit of reducing and even preventing most flooding events around the nation. Infrastructure is a County's most important avenue of progress! What the United States did in the 1930s With the New Deal and the government's actions on putting millions of people to work on infrastructure, that is still in use today! Shows us that whatever we do as a country to improve water use, energy production, interstate transportation, and to prevent damages from flooding. All work to make life that much better, not just now but for generations into the future. As in the New Deals, work done was not paid as per union or retail prices, but as future ownership in an ongoing 20-acre farm that would include a 1-acre fishpond, that would become farms for those who worked on each aspect, after a period of 5 years, free and clear, but could not be sold to others, only handed down from one generation to another. This would vastly increase the number of middle-class farmers and tradespeople that would be self-employed! It would also limit large corporations from buying many small farmers out. Since the reason for moving all of this water is to replant the many arid and semi-arid areas of the planet and in doing so, what crops to be planted, would not be based solely on the most profit per acre, but the most ground cover and plant respiration, per acre. Which does not fit into the profile of any corporation that I am aware of. Perhaps even defeating much of the reason that makes these farms both profitable and necessary to rebuild the planet's temperature-regulating-abilities!
