472 Humanity does have a responsibility to the planet, as the only species that can repair its lost temperature-regulating abilities, and maintain Carbon Dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
But that does not mean that everyone on the planet has that as a purpose for "why they are here"! That can only serve as such a reason for those who wish to direct themselves in that direction while leading the need that many have for friendship, love, and perhaps children. What normally in times past gives people a "reason for being" has been based on a belief in powers greater than ourselves. This can come in many forms, and has led to countless atrocities, all in the name of destiny or divine purpose! Hopefully, with a new understanding of why the planet came to acknowledge that such a species as mankind was absolutely needed, we can put aside much of our old belief in, royal bloodlines, manifest destiny, being the chosen people, or any other reason we are taught that gives one group of people authority over others!
Having a purpose in life, and if that purpose can also support a family, leaving behind an even better life for any descendants goes a long way towards a person's individual fulfillment for a life well spent! Does this not help answer the age-old question of why we are here, so much better than any other answer you may have heard before? While only a small percentage of humanity would need to be working directly in re-planting the deserts and semi-arid areas of the planet by moving fresh water and becoming farmers, the supporting staff that indirectly contribute to the welfare of both the planet and those working more closely, with such an endeavor, would greatly increase that percentage. The countless millions that could also be working far away from the main drive of repairing the planet's temperature-regulating-abilities, could also add substantially to the overall plant life on the planet, by creating such life deep within towns and cities everywhere. All of the technology that will be needed, is really already known just not widely used, eliminating food deserts that now exist in many inner cities, especially for fresh fruits and vegetables!
Nutrients that plant life needs to flourish are becoming scarce in many places, besides carbon mainly as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, iron, nitrogen, phosphates, potassium, and even many micronutrients are becoming limiting factors in just how much plant life an area can support. Leading to fewer nutrients in foods that both animals and humans eat! Each and every day, mankind buries or uses bacteria to break down almost all of our waste products instead of composting and replacing these most important nutrients back into soils where they are needed to grow the next season's crops! Farmers understand the importance of replacing fertilizers but usually limit that to just nitrogen, phosphates, and potassium. And every few years would add lime to lower ph (acid) levels.
Having to buy man-made fertilizers, is a very expensive endeavor, instead replacing the waste that is generated by the consumption of the products that each farm has created, could go a very long way in rebuilding the soil humus that farming removes.
There are hundreds of ways to encourage plant life in all areas of the planet, but we are so set in the ways handed down by our parents and forefathers that we fail to see all of the options out there. We then wring our hands saying that anything we do will not matter in the grand scheme of life, so why put forth the effort! Complaining the whole time about how expensive food is! Well, I do ramble! However, if anyone has been struck by lightning and survived perhaps that is your cue to help start that all-important conversation concerning what our beautiful planet is truly facing.
