     We have understood what causes red algae blooms for a number of years,! It is the introduction of nutrients in water runoff from farming and human-produced waste. Okay simple enough why does that cause problems putting extra nutrients for life to grow in water? Because for life to use these increased nutrients for growth they come up against a limiting factor for growth "OXYGEN" availability in these very waters. Oxygen in the atmosphere is around 21%, but it usually is less than 1% in most water. This leaves very little available for plant growth and animal life. Once this oxygen is used up, ALL animals die or are driven away from the affected area. This leaves only anaerobic bacteria to break down all of this dead material and the by-product of this is RED-TIDES that continue to poison these areas until storms and changing wave patterns bring back oxygen and more normal conditions over time. 

    Right now mankind tries to reduce the number of nutrients (mainly nitrogen, but many other energy sources play a part) that come down the freshwater rivers by limiting fertilizers that farmers use for crop production. 

    But this can never stop red tides from happening so we should embrace this new nutrient source as another way of growing food for both man and animals. However, to do this we must greatly increase the available oxygen in the waters where this nutrient is delivered! Solar-powered air pumps placed all over these areas will inject not just needed oxygen to maintain levels from killing off the local life but enough to support the new types of food that feeds both mankind and animals. In Asia these food sources are commonly grow on extremely long series of ropes that can be continuely harvested by platforms that travel along these ropes. They can range from types of seaweed, alge, even some types of crustracean's that can be grown in this fashion. All helping to use up the increased nutrients that freshwater rivers bring down. Their is an almost unlimited amount of nutrients that otherwise could only be considered pollution if not used! 

    Improving millions of acres of seawater from red-tides and converting them into profitable sea aquaculture areas suddenly allows completely new ways of looking at nutrients sources that nature never had before.
