478 CDLXXVIII Mankind has been absolutely terrible at learning from history, they will tell you, of course that happened that way in history, but times have changed and what caused it is not longer relevant!

     Yet here we are again with another war based on past beliefs or facing another famine because of the over-grazing of lands that protect the soil. The list of mankind believing that things happen for a different reason than in past times is almost endless! And the consequences are always slightly worst because of the ever-increasing population of humanity. 

    Beautiful, wonderful, and the only place we can call home "Earth" is again under attack from the same forces that have been the cause of almost every extinction event in the planet's past "Carbon sequestration"! Yet what do we say, no, it is mankind's addition of 150 parts per million of carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere using long-term-storage carbon, that is the culprit! Scientists have the closest thing to absolute proof, that twice in the planet's past a 100,000,000-year-long "Snowball Earth event" happened that was caused by not enough carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to keep the planet's climate warm enough to be prevented. (the estimates on how long each event lasted, all vary considerably, the range is usually 100,000,000, to 300,000,000 years) What do we have as proof that Earth was on the edge of another "Snowball Earth event? Just the last 2.5 million years of the planet entering into a cyclical in nature glaciation period with 10,000 year periods of inter-glacial, yet with ever-increasing lengths of times of when more ice was being staged of the planet starting at around 40,000 years long and the last one was over 100,000 years long! But again instead of looking at the past to give humanity some insight into what was happening, we do as we always do "blame big bad mankind" caring about nothing but money and power" and our own comfort! (Which we are guilty of, just not this time, hey there are times that not everything is mankind's fault)! Because of carbon sequestration, the planet should have entered into another ice-age around 3,500 years ago based on the normal length of 10,000 years of inter-glacial periods that have been the average period for the last 2.5 million years, why did this not happen? Mankind, along with the help of animals on the planet uses mid-term storage carbon (TREES) as food! WHAT am I saying?

     Whatever takes carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and thereby removes its use from day-to-day living changes the balance of carbon dioxide that can maintain the planet's warmth, allow other planet life to use it, or restrict the growth of plants in areas of limited rainfall. Beavers, porcupines, grazing animals that eat young saplings before they grow into trees, insects, and parasites that target whole species of trees all helped to take mid-term carbon storage and place it in short-term and immediate use carbon dioxide. All of these species of life either adapted or evolved to help fill the fundamental niche of reducing mid-term carbon storage so that another "Snowball Earth" was delayed until an even more important species had a chance to advance enough to not just postpone the planet from entering into the next-last and never-ending "Snowball Earth event" but to start using long-term-carbon-storage to offset carbon sequestration that only Earth's active plate-tectonics was able to do before. Only once mankind advanced both in population and knowledge could they make the all-important jump from being a hunter-gatherer society and transition into an agricultural-based society, in so doing they greatly speed up the movement of mid-term carbon storage into the all-important short-term and immediate use carbon! Even this action only was only a stop-gap that prevented Earth's entry into the next ice-age around 3,500 years ago!

CCLXXIV Global Warming and Climate Change} Let's talk more, about the 50,000 gigatonnes of available carbon, that is left for all life on the planet!

First, how do scientist's come up with around 50,000 gigatonnes of available carbon left on the planet? Some of the amounts can be directly measured, how much there is in the atmosphere is one of the most researched numbers on the planet! That figure of 415 parts per million equals around 800 gigatonnes of carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide. 560 gigatonnes in plant and animal life are based on both satellite images for how much plant life is on the planet during the year and measurements that were taken by hundreds of people every year all around the planet.
